Varying the angle
We add a slider that enables the student to vary the angle, as well as the magnitude, of the cue ball atom’s initial velocity. We keep the energy levels visible but fixed, and arrange it so that it is impossible to excite the object ball atom if the angle is set to the maximum of its range (where the collision is a glancing one), even when the cue ball is given maximum speed. We give the cue ball atom a large excitation energy so that it will not get excited, to minimize confusion.
