Atoms can store energy by going into excited states

As we have seen before, atoms interact by attracting each other, except that when they get too close they bounce off and go their separate ways. But something strange can happen when two atoms collide -- something you haven't seen before! In the model below, try changing the speed of the blue atom, using the slider, and see if you can get anything unusual to happen.
