spring you saw earlier, atoms conserve energy. At the atomic scale, there
is potential energy associated with the forces that bind atoms together.
(Unlike a spring, however, the force between atoms gets weaker when the
distance between them goes beyond a certain point). This kind of potential
energy is often known as the <b>interatomic potential energy</b>.</font><br><br>
