Qian--show a model with a significant number of atoms in the gas phase, heat bath on, and show the temperature. Next to this is two line graphs that will show the running average of the KE of two highlighted atoms. we will ask students to pic two different atoms and graph the average kinetic energy. The students should find that any particular atom will have the same average KE as any other atom. (Dan says you will need to use scripts to surround the chosen atoms with a ring of color that will match the graph.)
Show another model where the user can add or remove atoms, with a temperature bar graph (or internal thermometer showing). We will ask students to add and remove atoms to see how this might affect the temperature.
