UTF-8Effect of Changing Interaction Energy FunctionEffect of changing Interaction Energy (PE) parameters:
In the first similuation we the particles interact with a small Interaction Energy (-0.01 eV at the minimum -- about the attraction between Argon atoms).
A gravitational field has been turned on.
Some energies for comparison:
1) Bond energy for Argon dimer due to van der Waals interaction: about 1000 J/mole = ~ 0.010 eV
2) The Hydrogen Bond so important in biology various a lot. Typical value is 20,000 J/mole = ~0.20 eV
3) The Covalent Bond Energy of H-H by comparison is 436,000 J/mole = ~4.85 eV
In the simulation, the blue particles have the size and interaction energy of argon atoms: epsilon ~0.01 and diameter (sigma) 3.4 Angstroms.
The green ones have the size and interaction energy of water molecules.
Initially the Temperature is high enough for both substances to be gases. The gravitational field has no effect.
As you the simulation gradually decrease the temperature to see what happens. Watch the Potential Energy. What do the green particles do? The blue particles?
