like it is made of "nothing", but hurricanes use air to knock over trees
and tear off roofs. As mentioned on the first page of this activity, about
10 billion billion molecules of air hit every square inch of your body
every second. Because these collisions are happening from all sides you
tend to stay in place. If the force from the collisions of these molecules
was not equal on each side of your body you would quickly find yourself
knocked over.</font>
<p>
<font size="4" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Rockets work
on this principle. Let's take a look at a simple kind of rocket, the
kind you make when you inflate a balloon with air and let it fly by
allowing the air to escape out of the mouth of the balloon. In the model
below you see an extremely tiny, sub-microsopic "balloon".</font>
