Carbohydrates, proteins and nucleic acids are built from smaller
molecular units, connected to each other with strong covalent bonds.
The units are called monomers (“mono” means one) and they are linked
together into long chains we call polymers (“poly” means many.)<br><br>Sometimes
macromolecules are strings of exactly the same type of monomers.
These are called regular polymers. Sometimes macromolecules are made
of a small set of different types of monomers. These are called
irregular polymers.<br><br>To the right is an analogy of polymers
