In addition to the magnetism generated by permanent magnets,
magnetic fields are also produced by electric currents. In fact, we
can make a more general statement that <b>all magnetic fields are
caused by moving charges</b>. In the case of both permanent magnets
and electric currents, the moving charge is the <i>electron</i>. For <b><font color="#FF0000">permanent
magnets</font></b>, <b><font color="#FF0000"><i>localized</i></font></b>
elecrons generate the magnetic fields as a result of their inherent
movement, such as rotation on an axis. But for <b><font color="#0000FF">electric
current</font></b>, the most significant form of electron movement
is the <b><font color="#0000FF"><i>delocalized</i></font><i> </i></b>movement
of electrons, such as electrons flowing from one end of a wire to
another. On this page we'll explore the magnetic field generated by
this delocalized movement of charge.

What goes here is one or more MW models which show charge movement
generating a magnetic field. A general representation I'm thinking about
is something like this: http://www.walter-fendt.de/ph11e/mfwire.htm.
Students would be asked to manipulate the parameters by changing the
charge of the particles between positive, negative and neutral, as well as
changing the direction and perhaps amount of current, and then observe how
these changes effect the magnetic field. They would also take snapshots to
be part of questions on the bottom of the page. I know it's probably
asking a lot, but any of the first three scenarios picture here (wire,
loop, solenoid) would be great to model if possible:
