UTF-8TAJ MODULEMOVEMENT OF PARTICLES BETWEEN AREAS OF DIFFERING CONCENTRATIONS
Segoe Scripttruetrue16255 102 153org.concord.modeler.PageTextBox550.0160.0Imagine that there is a large number of a particular particle on one side of a barrier...say for example, a dam wall holding back a body of water from spilling into the city.
What will happen if the dam wall bursts in terms of the water particles' movement?
Play the module and watch.-333301Lineorg.concord.mw2d.activity.AtomContainerTAJ PAGE1$0.mmlorg.concord.modeler.PageTextBox600.0200.0(You may play the module again as you read on.)
Notice at the beginning that all of the water molecules are on the left side behind the dam. When the dam wall breaks, the water molecules rush towards the right. If you let the
module play for a while, then you will notice that eventually the water molecules occupy all
areas at the bottom fairly equally.
This module shows what happens to any concentration of particles when they are released
from a contained area. They will move from the area of higher concentration (where they
were contained) towards areas of lower concentration (where they will spread to).
