<p class="firstp">
When electrons are shared between atoms they make covalent bonds. Equal
sharing of electrons between two atoms produces a non-polar bond.
Unequal sharing produces a polar bond: a separation of positive and
negative charge.
</p>
<p>
The equality of sharing electrons is decided by each atom's "electron
greediness", their ability to attract an electron from its position near
another atom, or, in short, their electronegativity.
</p>
<p>
Oxygen, nitrogen and phosphorus are all very electronegative, and they
are found in many biomolecules. Their particular electronegative values
can be found on a chart of electronegativity.
