We are used to thinking about energy at our human scale when we see
thunderclouds develop, a race car move, or a plant grow. Learning
about energy at the atomic scale can help you understand those
changes at a more profound level.

Different kinds of energy
include light, heat, chemical change, and kinetic (energy of
motion). While we focus only on the energy of motion here, much that
you learn can be applied to the other forms of energy. The goal of
this activity is to explore potential energy and kinetic energy, as
well as energy conservation, and to apply what you learn to both our
human scale world and the world of atoms and molecules.
