UTF-8vp test 1The vapor pressure of a volatile solvent will be lowered by adding a solute. This means that if two beakers are placed under a bell jar, one containing a concentrated solution and the other containing a more dilute solution or pure solvent, solvent will evaporate from the more dilute solution and condense into the more concentrated solution until the concentrations are equal. We showed this is in another model (called vptest). Here we show that the end result is the same if the two solutions are separated by a semipermeable membrane and osmosis takes place. The starting conditions are the same as in vptest, except the volume of the left compartment has been increased.
